Tafel Racing Qualifies Third and Fifth at Homestead

Homestead QualifyingHOMESTEAD, FL-- Tafel Racing qualified its two Porsche GT3 Cup cars in 3rd and 5th position under bright, beautiful Florida skies at the Linder Industrial Komatsu Grand Prix of Miami at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Eric Lux of Buffalo, NY, who celebrated is nineteenth birthday yesterday, qualified 3rd in the 74 Rembrandt Charms Porsche GT3 Cup. Lux had the second quickest time when the session was black flagged for a car going off course into the gravel.

“The black flag really affected our results. We had flying lap and were in P2 at the start of the session. The next lap was looking great; the tires were optimal and it could have been our quickest except for the black flag. The Farnbacher car had not gone out until after the black flag and just had better conditions for a quick lap. We’re in a good position for the race, though, on the inside of the second row and it’s going to be a great race.”

Teammate Nathan Swartzbaugh of La Habra Heights, CA  had never raced at this track before this weekend, but obviously has learned a lot in a short time, qualifying the 72 North-South Machinery.com Porsche in 5th position.

“The lap I was on when they called the black flag was probably my best chance for a good lap because of traffic and tire wear. In a black flag situation you lose the time the session is stopped but also the time it takes to get the car and tires back up to speed.  Still, I’m happy that our times have gotten better all weekend and we know we can be on the podium at the end tomorrow.”

The checkered flag will drop on the Linder Industrial Komatsu Grand Prix of Miami in round three of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve at 2:00 PM ET tomorrow.  The race will be broadcast live on SPEED.
