Tafel Racing Finishes Fifth and Eleventh in Detroit |

Detroit, Mich. – Tafel Racing finished fifth and eleventh today in round 10 of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) Detroit Grand Prix. Team owner Jim Tafel and Dominik Farnbacher were fifth with Wolf Henzler and Robin Liddell classified in eleventh.
The close confines of the Belle Isle circuit continued to play havoc on the Tafel cars today. After a difficult first practice yesterday with damage to both Tafel racers, the team was able to secure a fifth place finish for the No. 73 of Tafel and Farnbacher. The finish equals the duo's best finish of the season, which was the first race at Sebring in March.
It was not easy. On the first lap Farnbacher, starting from the third row in GT2, met with contact sending the young German into the spin cycle and to the back of the field. Farnbacher was able to drive the No. 73 back to fourth place before handing over to Tafel. Tafel then was able to hold onto the position, until being spun by a competing Ferrari which relegated him to fifth place.

The American Le Mans Series will be the first sports cars to grace the 2.096-mile, 14- turn modified park circuit. The tight confines of a street course are no stranger to the Tafel team. This will be the fourth street race of the season for the team from Cumming, Georgia.

Detroit, Mich., August 31, 2007 – Tafel Racing had a difficult morning session but rebounded and will start fifth and ninth for tomorrow’s running of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) Detroit Grand Prix.
The close confines of the Belle Isle circuit were not kind to the Tafel cars in the first session this morning. Jim Tafel in the No. 73 Tafel Racing Porsche had contact going into turn eight. The resulting tap holed one of the 997s radiators ending the session. The team worked hard to get the car ready for the afternoons practice and qualifying session. Teammate Dominik Farnbacher rewarded the team with a fifth place qualifying effort running a time of 1:25.428.
