Braselton, Georgia – Tafel Racing’s Wolf Henzler and Dominik Farnbacher in their No. 71 Porsche finished second this evening in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) Petit Le Mans run at Road Atlanta. Henzler and Farnbacher endured 10-hours of racing to bring their 997 RSR home in second place, the team’s best finish of the year.
Henzler started the Tafel Porsche from his third row qualifying position. By lap three he had the car in third position and by lap 18 was leading the race. As the team cycled through pit stops, Henzler and Farnbacher fought to stay at the front of the GT2 field. On lap 93 Farnbacher pitted the car out of sequence due to a loss of power. The problem was quickly diagnosed by the Porsche technical team as a bad fuse. Then on lap 307, around the race’s three-quarter distance, the Tafel crew had trouble with the left rear wheel. Team technical director Tony Dowe made the decision to keep the left rear on the car and returned Henzler to the fight, so as not to go down a lap with repairs. On the final pit stop, Dowe consulted with the Michelin tire technician who inspected the tire and the decision was made to triple-stint the left rear. Those strategic calls, coupled with excellent crew work and driving propelled the team to their best finish of the season.

Tafel Racing to Start Fifth and Eighth in GT2 at Petit |

Braselton, Georgia, October 5, 2007 – Tafel Racing qualified fifth and eighth today for the 10th running of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) Petit Le Mans. Wolf Henzler will start the No. 71 Tafel Porsche from the third row with teammate Nathan Swartzbaugh starting from the fourth row.
Under changing track conditions from overnight and morning rain, the Tafel duo of Henzler and Swartzbaugh took to the track with what they hoped would be the right combination for the current track conditions. Henzler clocked a time of 1:22.158 and Swartzbaugh put in a lap of 1:23.158. The times were nearly a half-second slower than their fastest times in the dry the day before.
“I am not too happy with that qualifying time,” Henzler said. “In practice yesterday we were really good. The car felt fast and was very drivable. I had a lot of understeer in qualifying really everywhere on the track. It could be the track losing grip from all the rain today. The car really didn’t fit the current track conditions. We need to figure out how we want to approach the race with the setup of the car.”

Tafel Racing’s Wolf Henzler – A Lap of Road Atlanta |
|

Braselton, Georgia – Tafel Racing’s Wolf Henzler takes a fast lap around the 2.54-mile, newly repaved, 12-turn Road Atlanta circuit. The team is in the first official practice day in preparation for the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) Petit Le Mans to be run on Saturday, October 6.
“Coming into turn one I use the end of the pit wall on the left side as my braking point. I come down from fifth gear to fourth and roll through the corner carrying a lot of speed as the uphill at the exit will compress the car and give you a lot of grip. I make sure to get early to the throttle at the apex and I don’t take it all the way out to the exit, more like three-quarter distance to the track out. This helps me get setup for the entry to turn two.
Turn two is uphill and you need to get back to the right, again this is why I don’t go all the way to the track out exiting one. You come up over the crest and get to the left mid-corner so I am setup for the entry to three. The car gets light so you have to be careful not to lock the brakes and flat spot a tire.
